The duration of procedures can vary. On average a gastroscopy takes between 5 - 15 minutes whilst a colonoscopy takes 20 – 45 minutes. Following the procedure, you will remain in the recovery area for one or two hours until the sedation wears off and you have had something to eat and drink. Often the total time from arrival until departure from the hospital will be 4-4.5 hours. Because there is anaesthetic for procedures remember that you cannot drive for 24hours and a responsible adult needs to take you home from hospital and monitor you overnight.
Driving is not permitted for 24 hours following a procedure to allow time for the effects of any sedation given to wear off. It is also important that you do not travel on public transport alone after your procedure. It is strongly advised that a friend or relative takes you home and stays with you overnight.
Please refer to all individual Doctor Bio's for individual fees depending on practitioner.
